Web applications add interactivity to a website. They run in browsers like Internet Explorer or Firefox like any other website.

Unlike normal website pages that never change, web application pages contain code that make them dynamic.

The code on web application page typically either:
- formats page content say by reading records from a database, or
- responds to user input with actions such as update a database.

Web applications offer many advantages compared to traditional desktop/office solutions.
