What are Web Applications ?

Web applications add interactivity to a website. They run in browsers like Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Unlike normal website pages that never change, web application pages contain code that make them dynamic.

The code on a web application page can typically:
- format page content e.g. by reading records from a database, or
- respond to user input with actions such as updating a database.

Online shopping is the most common example of a web application.

Web applications offer many advantages compared to traditional desktop/office solutions and so are becoming increasing more popular.
