1. Minutes of AGM 21st MAY 2008 their were no matters arising and were agreed
2. Secretary report Due to fixture postponements in the MCA we were still playing chess in June in other leagues and that our two club tournaments did not go ahead.
Next year division 4 of the MCA will only have 5 teams playing each other 3 times, but the 5 division would have 7 teams to accommodate s/port junior team. After some heated debate we decided to stay in div 4 but a letter of protest (sent) and a proposal for next season should be lodged at the MCA.
No board fees in the MCA for season 2009/10
New grades would be in place for 2009/10
3. Treasurer’s report which include both club and rapid-play accounts
were presented showing the club account was well in credit.
Some monies collected for in house competition but not spent would be added to our account.
It was agreed that with our building society account making very little interest it should be closed placing all monies into our current account.
Membership 2009/10 to stay as last year.
NCCU Fee £ 10.50
Skelmersdale Club Fee £ 5 adult , 60+ £2, Juniors free
Ex-Service Mens Club fee £ 5.00 to be paid by club
Skem 1 Steve reported due to a lot of fixture chaos in the MCA only playing 2 games in the first half of the season he was not always able to field his best team, this apart thanking all for their efforts they finished second in div 3.
Skem 2 MCA div 4 had the same problems as skem1 being bottom for most of the season but finished a respectable 3rd.
Warrington Derek reported - thanking all who played and saying it was one of the best seasons regarding results they’d had using different players from the club as some of their regular team were not available. Neil had again been a splendid captain.
Lancs A Report sent by Paul was read out: Total of 13 players used, thank you all. Generally playing strong opposition including a GM against Heywood, short of 1 or more stronger player probably. Paul Enjoyed being the captain, but very time consuming finding players do not want to continue as captain. Lost severl matches by close margin and finished near bottom of league.
Lancs B Having lost a lot of junior players from last year and playing till June John said it was a tremendous effort by his team as the went on to win the 3RD division well done applause all round
5. The 2009 rapid play had made virtually no profit. The venue had installed very bad lighting and the attendance was down. It was felt in some quarters that to much effort had reaped little reward, finding a new venue may be difficult as council venues now carry an insurance premium as well as raising costs at other venues. Some members voiced that profit was not the aim rather promoting chess in the area, and we had achieved this and should continue.
6. A request from Ormskirk chess club had been submitted that since S Jaquest is ill, would Skem like to run their rapid play. This was discussed at length with the feeling that it would be a good to take up this offer before deciding the out come of our own rapid play. J Dilworth has offered to sponsor this along with a donation from Ormskirk Club. It provisionally been set for, Sunday 4th October at the Civic Hall, Ormskirk.
